An evening filled with music, creativity, and joy. From vocal and instrumental performances students have been practicing all year, to the beautiful artwork displayed throughout the exhibit, it was a celebration of dedication, self-expression, and heart. Music and art have a unique way of uplifting children and helping their inner qualities shine.

Adventure Week brings middle school students together through outdoor challenge, shared work, and time in nature. Cooking meals, exploring together, and taking responsibility as a group helps students build connection and discover a deeper sense of meaning that carries into the school year.

Theater Magic is more than a performance, it’s a core part of our curriculum. For an entire term, students step into the life of an extraordinary figure, bringing history, art, and self-expression together on stage.

This year’s production tells the story of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and the deeper strength that guided the Civil Rights Movement.

These moments capture what happens when students don’t just study history—they live it.

Snorkeled with manta rays. Swam with dolphins and turtles. Hiked down to Captain Cook and snorkeled in Kealakekua Bay. Watched Kīlauea erupt during the day and again at night and it honestly didn’t feel real. Explored lava tubes and sang in complete darkness. Visited Rainbow Falls, the banyan forest in Hilo, Two Step, and the Place of Refuge. Random rainstorms, ocean views everywhere, and barely any phone service half the time.

And also somehow:

Built a platform and canopy for a future temple + yoga hall

Cleared land for garden beds and planted banana trees

Cooked meals for the whole retreat every day

Put on a kirtan and concert

Made mango cheesecake for Swami’s birthday

Tutored younger students

Started every morning with meditation, yoga, and breakfast in silence

A lot happened in two weeks.

In just 15 months, our powerlifting team has grown from one lifter to ten—now more than half the school. What began as one student’s commitment has become a strong team culture.

Training together throughout the week, every athlete earned gold at their first team competition this year, with Coach Keshava taking bronze. At Boss Barbell Club, students train alongside elite athletes, pushing their limits in a serious environment.

Experienced lifters now mentor newer teammates, strengthening both the team and their own understanding of the sport.

Their physical strength is impressive. More importantly, they are developing discipline, perseverance, and the ability to do hard things well—qualities that carry into every part of life.

This Yosemite expedition asked a great deal of our upper school students. Hiking more than twenty miles in a single day, they moved together through challenge, fatigue, and moments of quiet determination. The experience offered more than physical accomplishment. It gave students a lived understanding of perseverance, teamwork, and their own capacity to meet demanding goals.

At the Fall Family Yoga Fest at Ananda Village, upper school students supported the event from start to finish, assisting with setup, music, activities, and cleanup. Their shared effort helped create a joyful, welcoming gathering and gave students practical experience in service, teamwork, and shared responsibility.
